aprons

Reshma ~ justice provocateur, good midwestern brooklynite and radical muffin

aprons keep your fabulous outfits clean whilst you whisk together culinary dreams and create shameless messes of bewitched, beglittered and bewildered art. Plus, aprons cute up your smart & sassy self.

all Radical Muffin aprons are composed of second hand fabrics and trim, often vintage, typically thrifted, sometimes gifted, and, on occasion, bolstered with new stuffs from the sari shop a few doors down from the workshop. Primarily machine sewn with hardy hand stitched details and trim. Individually styled, each has a practical pocket. Sometimes it is hidden in the waistband. Each comes with a fresh recipe, beyond those blogged. If you want to gift an apron, she can be shipped with a card to your favorite kitchen witch.

Aprons range in prices from $25 – $75. To request specific prices or additional information and to place an order, please e-mail Vanessa Rae at radicalmuffin @ gmail.com.

Even a brickhouse falls to pieces eventually. As your apron takes the heat, grease and dishwater, or goes through the ringer again, she may unravel. Shed some sparkle and lace. Each comes with an extra fabric swatch in case a patch may extend her usefulness. When your apron begins to show record of the work—before she becomes a kitchen towel and you replace her— do pause to marvel at what you have wrought, for she is a new thing, older & wiser.

For now, please enjoy these creations:

the indefatigable Tori of Kitchentop Catering in ‘queerly biased’ on the left; ‘cherry bombe’ on the artist to the right

Red polka dots fall along white fabric cut on the bias. That means this beautiful thing will cling across your belly, which should be well-loved, especially in the kitchen. A straight cut sash of the same material (and same as ‘cherry bombe’) measures 66″ across. She hangs 19″ from center waist to bottom of the 3″ ruffle of black taffeta with black and silver glitter dots. A pocket sits at the right hip, top trimmed with fat black rickrack.

White with red polka dots ruffled with sheer red netting trimmed with red lace, this waist apron measures 76″ across the tie and about 21″ from the center waist to the bottom. The sash is of white sari fabric with light pink and red flowers with tiny teal leaves with darker pink rickrack across. Hidden pocket.

- petite bonne femme -

The color of mint ice cream, this old curtain is vertically lined with white and yellow tulips and daisies in simple columns with their stems and teeny white swiss dots to boot!

Short and sweet, the skirt hangs just 10″ long with sharp pleats all along it. The 56″ sash is white with light pink and dark red popcorn flowers dotted too with white tufts. Hidden pocket.

If you serve any lime gelatin dessert wearing this, please please send pictures!

Tori as the ‘witch’ and Reshma, ‘biased queerly’

- hansel & gretel’s witch -

! SOLD !

A 79″ sash and tiered ruffles of black taffeta spangles with its own black and silver polka dots and jingles with hand sewn vintage bangles, half hidden in the pleats.

Two layers of netting billow out from underneath: one fine net in teal and one honeycomb like net in canary yellow. Hidden pocket under the first ruffle layer to squirrel away sweets, treats and all manner of toothsome stuffs.

Thanks so much to the lovely Radical Muffin models and our photographer, Tom Martinez.

yay, chef nan! so glad you paid a visit to the aprons. this is to be the christmas of elaborate gingerbread construction, which always makes me think of you. i suppose, however, to meet your standards, i’d need to fill the thing with homemade candy. LOVE
